RISSANI, MOROCCO LIBRARY PROJECT
In March, 2016, I had the privilege to visit Morocco for the first time, and was completely taken with its beauty, culture, geography, food, and most especially, its very welcoming people. It was my pleasure to get to know our local guide and to learn a bit of his life story. Growing up in the remote town of Rissani, in southern Morocco, and of Amazigh descent, Mohammed AitRhanimi did not have his own books during his school years. Yet he graduated from high school and went to University, became fluent in 5 languages and is now a professional tour leader. Mohammed talked of his desire to give back and to help the young students in his hometown. In those discussions, a collaboration for the Rissani, Morocco Library Project was born.
I learned there are many motivated young students in Morocco who want to learn English, as a means to broaden their minds, become global citizens and future leaders in our modern world. Since my return to the United States, it has become my goal to find a way to bring English language books to the students of Rissani.
(PRINCESS LALLA SALMA HIGH SCHOOL AND STUDENTS IN THE ENGLISH CLUB)
Mohammed has put me in contact with the English teacher and Headmaster at his high school in Rissani. At Princess Lalla Salma High School, Mr. Abderrazzak Salhaoui, the English language teacher, has established a weekly English Club for motivated students at the school who are eager to learn English. These English Clubs now exist at many high schools in Morocco. Access to English language books for these enthusiastic students is critical to their development. This is where we can help.
I am asking for donations so that together, we can provide an English language library for these students. I will consult with Mr. Salhaoui to establish an appropriate book list for the students. From the donations gathered, I will then purchase the books and have them shipped to Rissani. I ask you to consider donating in any amount (all donations are tax deductible) to help reach my goal of $3000. This is an opportunity to join hands with Mohammed and the dedicated teachers, in supporting the English learners in Morocco’s youth.

Fundraising for this project, functions under the Morocco Library Project, a non profit organization founded in 2014 by Barb Mackraz, of Palo Alto, CA. In 2015, Barb established a library in Erfoud, and since then, 7 more libraries have been created in other schools in Morocco.

On behalf of Abderrazzak Salhaoui (English teacher), Mohammed Serraj (Headmaster), and Mohammed AitRhanimi, I thank you.
Sincerely,

INSPIRING LITERACY, BUILDING FRIENDSHIP
In late 2016/early 2017, an English language library will be established for students in an underserved area in Rissani, Morocco, in the Sahara Desert region. The students are of Amazigh (Berber) descent and are eager to learn the English language.
This project is supported entirely by donations, and all work is done by volunteers both here and in Morocco. It is truly a cross cultural partnership.
Our mission is to inspire literacy and love of learning, and to build a lasting bridge of peace and friendship between the East and West. Your book(s) purchase (at a 10% discount) will go directly to an English language student at Princess Lalla Salma High School in Rissani. Thank you for your support.
